Chiropractor in Freehold NJ Recommends Exercise if Suffering with Fibromyalgia

Exercise is not only important for healthy people but especially those with fibromyalgia.  Exercise improves fitness and improves sleep patterns.

Whatever exercise you decide to do, follow this one important guideline:  Do not overdo it!  Overdoing exercise can create an exacerbation of your condition.

My name is Dr. Russell Brokstein, and I’ve been helping patients who suffer with Fibromyalgia for the past 13 years with chiropractic and other natural health and preventive measures.  My office, Hometown Family Wellness Center, located in Freehold NJ has been helping fibromyalgia sufferers from Freehold, Marlboro, Manalapan, Howell, Colts neck, Morganville, Jackson and many other neighboring Monmouth and Ocean County NJ communities.

Too many people that have fibromyalgia lay around and think inactivity is important, but the total opposite is reality.  It is so important to be active and start exercising!

If you are currently not exercising, the best way to start is by walking and stretching.  Walk a few blocks the first day.  Monitor your body and see how it handles the walk.  If you aren’t feeling fatigued from that amount of exercise, increase the number of blocks you walk the next day.  Then monitor your body again.  How did you do?  Tired after the increase?  Then you’ll want to reduce the number of blocks you walk the next day.  The important thing is to start off lightly and increase gradually.

It’s important to get some type of exercise every day.  Some people use the pedometers to count the number of steps they take during the day.  Others measure their exercise by how many minutes they walk or cycle.  Others measure distance.  Whatever method you use, stay true to that method to monitor your progress.

When it comes to stretching, simple stretches, such as the ones that are emphasized in yoga classes are wonderful.  They increase flexibility, allow you to learn more about how your body is changing, and increase muscle tone. Your body ends up tighter and leaner.

You can easily find a hatha yoga book if you don’t want to go to yoga classes. Select five stretches, called yoga poses.  When you do yoga, you don’t have to meditate or believe in Eastern philosophy.

Cardio exercise is ok, but I don’t want you to overdo it by going into kickboxing classes and other more advanced classes.  I certainly don’t want to squash your motivation!  Here’s what I find works best:  Start changing your diet, add your supplements and get more sleep.  When you do this, your body will tell you when it’s ready to exercise.  Other than a 10-20 minute walk every day, let your body guide you as to what it wants to do and can do.  Not following your intuition on this matter will set you back physically.  So play it safe.

If you have been noticing a lot of positive improvements in how you feel, do a bigger workout than what you usually do. Go for it, but only increase by 5 minutes, not 20!  It’s better to be safe than sorry!

Massage is fine, but avoid deep tissue work until you’re feeling much better.  A massage is a workout but you aren’t the one doing the work!  Still, there is a buildup in lactic acid, just as there is when you work out.

What will you do to dissipate this lactic acid quickly?  The answer is take a little more vitamin C!  Remember that the vitamin C eliminates the muscle fatigue.  Also make sure you are properly hydrated by drinking plenty of water.  I guide my patients to drink half your body weight in ounces.  (So if you weigh 150 pounds, you would drink 75 ounces of water a day)  Just remember if you drink any caffeine products, like coffee, you have to increase your water intake.  Some research shows just one cup of coffee pulls out up to 4 to 8 glasses of water from the body.  You can read further about supplement recommendations on our blog by clicking:  Chiropractor in Freehold NJ Shares more Dietary Recommendations for Fibromyalgia Sufferers.

Massage improves blood circulation in the muscles, helps improve range of motion in your joints and increases the production of endorphins, which are the body’s painkillers.

Massage can help you fight the widespread pain and tenderness to light touch you feel with fibromyalgia.  Like anything else, too much too soon can cause a setback.  One massage a week is plenty.

When you have fibromyalgia, weight training should focus on light weights, only one or two sets of 10 repetitions, and only about 10 exercise equipment machines should be used.  You will risk an exacerbation if you do more than that.

Running is similar to walking.  Start out with a low distance, monitor your body for extra fatigue, and if you get fatigued, back off the distance.  Do not overstress your system.  As you become healthier, you will feel like exercising more.

Housework is like exercise too.  Some household chores can be too much for a fibromyalgia patient, such as mopping and vacuuming extra large rooms. Delegate these chores until you are healthier.

Ask me any specific questions on exercise at your next appointment.

Many of my patients ask me:  Dr. Russell, what do I do if I exercise and feel pain coming on quickly afterwards? You mentioned that vitamin C might help.  Is there anything else that I can do?

It’s always good to have a plan!  The Vitamin C as mentioned before can be helpful because it will decrease lactic acid accumulation in the muscles.  Lactic acid is a waste product that is produced whenever we move our muscles.

The second thing you can do is put heat on the area. This will increase the circulation and help flush out the waste products.

The Fibromyalgia Clinic at Mayo recommends whirlpool therapy with the water temperature at a minimum of 95 degrees.

I hope you find these exercise recommendations helpful in getting you back to feeling normal and active, relieving your fibromyalgia symptoms and living a lifestyle of health and wellness.

Freehold Chiropractor helps Golfers Play without Back Pain, Improve their Swing and Lower Their Handicap

Is back pain keeping you from enjoying life?  Do Any Of These Conditions Affect Your Golf Game?

  • Back pain
  • Sciatica
  • Disc bulging/herniations
  • Muscle spasms
  • Lumbar facet syndrome
  • Pinched nerves and numbness
  • Shoulder pain
  • Leg weakness

My name is Dr. Russell Brokstein, and as a chiropractor in Freehold, New Jersey, I specialize in many sports injuries.  Golf is a popular sport in Monmouth County, NJ.  During the spring and summer months, I see a lot of golfers who have lower back pain, neck pain, and even shoulder, elbow, knee and or hip pain.

It starts out as just a twinge, but by the last 5 holes it becomes unbearable. You’re hesitant to really swing that new driver for all it’s worth – fearing that you’ll injure your back even worse .  Or maybe you’ve had to stop playing golf completely because your back pain and sciatica are so bad.

Sure, you can numb the pain if you take enough Vicodin, Soma or some other pain medication. But the real problem is while you play through all “numbed up”, you are definitely injuring your back even more….without knowing it.  That pain is a signal to you that something is wrong and just masking it with a pain pill will cause more harm than good.

Friends May Tell You Back Pain Comes From a Bad Swing…They’re Wrong!

If your drives are getting shorter and shorter and your putts less smooth, it has more to do with your back than your swing.

Studies show that about one-third of touring PGA and LPGA players are playing with back pain right now. These pros have the best swing mechanics in the world, yet still have back pain!  Think of all the extra wear and tear on the joints, tendons and ligaments from the repetitive motions of the golf swing.

In addition to that, another study conducted at the University of Calgary showed… “Pain-free golfers demonstrated over twice as much trunk flexion velocity on the downswing”.

This means the less back pain you have, the more flexible your spine is and the faster you can swing – hitting the ball straighter and farther.

Over the past 13 years, I’ve helped hundreds of golfer’s in the area feel better, return to the course and hit longer, straighter shots.

Your driving distance is determined primarily by club-head speed. The larger the arc that the club-head travels through, the faster the club will be going when it contacts the ball. The size of your swing arc will depend on your spinal and pelvic flexibility, not  your strength.

Flexibility is much more important to your long game than strength. If you want to hit longer and more powerful golf shots you must improve your posture and flexibility.

Other golfers come to me knowing chiropractic provides the advantage of prevention and increasing their flexibility and full range of motion in their swing providing for longer, more powerful golf shots.

It’s so important that if you play golf, that you have a sports chiropractor that analyzes your ranges of motion of the entire spine, your flexibility of your leg and arm muscles, and the strenght and stability of your ankles, feet, knees and hips.  Even if you are not feeling pain, it can help you prevent future problems and also improve your swing and handicap.

In our office we assess all aspects, starting with a state of the art computerized nervous system and spine assessment.  Then we check the range of motion of your cervical and thoraco-lumbar spine.  Afterward we check the flexibility of your hamstrings, quadriceps, and piriformis muscles in the leg and hip regions and follow with checking the muscles of the shoulder girdle.  Finally we muscle test the stability of the supporting joints of the legs, shoulders and arms.

“If It’s Good Enough For The Pros…”

The PGA has a full time chiropractor present at every PGA event year round. Even Tiger Woods has had a chiropractor on his team since the beginning of this career.  In fact, he rode on the Chiropractic Centennial Float in the 1995 Pasadena tournament of Roses Parade. Before the parade, he said…

“I’ve been going to the chiropractor for as long as I remember. It’s as important to my game as practicing my swing!” – Tiger Woods

Our office, Hometown Family Wellness Center is located at 9 Broadway, Freehold, NJ where Main Street forks for Rte 79.  We have helped golfers in Freehold and the surrounding towns of Marlboro, Morganville, Howell, Colts Neck, Millstone, Jackson and Manalapan, NJ.

Golf is a sport that requires your back in every aspect. If you do not address your back pain properly, it can haunt you and force you to give up golf forever.  Don’t let back pain handicap your golf game any longer or better yet, get an advantage over your fellow golfers who don’t utilize chiropractic for a natural edge in your swing and game!

Freehold NJ Chiropractor explains Chiropractic is more than Neck Pain and Back Pain

As a chiropractor in Freehold, New Jersey, I see patients from many parts of Monmouth County, especially nearby towns of Marlboro, Howell, Jackson, Colts Neck, Morganville, Millstone and Manalapan, NJ.

Many people come in for neck pain, back pain, sciatica, headaches or migraines, and Fibromyalgia.  After reading one of the many articles about health (Thank you 33 Principles for your article) one of the first questions is, “How long do I have to come in?”

The question to you is, how long do you want to be healthy?  How long do you want to enjoy your normal daily activities?  How long would you like to enjoy playing with your children?

In our society so many people think there is a quick fix.  They think popping a pill is going to fix their pain, fix their weight, fix their blood pressure, fix their cholesterol, etc.  I think you get the point.  Well all these medications do is cover up the symptoms with many side effects.  These meds do not get to the cause of the problem.

Patients understand with physical therapy, you have to follow a consistent treatment plan to relieve their pain.  Chiropractic is going deeper than even physical therapy to actually get down to the cause of the pain, but yet people think one or 2 treatments is going to fix it.  Chiropractors adjust the underlying cause, the subluxation.  Meanwhile, all the muscles, tendons and ligaments that support the vertebra are used to holding it out of place.  It takes a while to retrain the supporting structures so not to misalign the vertebra again, putting more pressure on the nerves.

At the same time, people are very active.  You might be walking and miss a curb or step, might carry a pocket book on one shoulder, sit at a desk all day slouching at a computer, lifting your kids all day, and so much more… these activities put stress on the body and can have a adverse affect on the spine.

Think of it this way:  If you want to lose weight and maintain a healthy weight, how many healthy meals do you need?  How many days in the gym or running outside to stay fit and in shape?  Obviously it takes more than just one.  You have got to stick with a program to maintain results.

The same is true for chiropractic.  To achieve lasting results, it’s all about repetition and consistency.  One adjustment might provide temporary relief of pain.  It takes more than one adjustment to correct the underlying cause and change your overall health.

Now you can answer:  How long should you stay on your nutritional program, workout routine or spinal health maintenance program?  I would think you would want to continue as long as you want to remain healthy.  You have to stick with a program to reap the true rewards.  There is no such thing as once and done.

Chiropractor in Freehold NJ is helping fibromyalgia sufferers have less pain, more energy, and enjoy life!

Suffering from Fibromyalgia is not your fault and it’s NOT in your head.  Clinical studies have shown that the majority of fibromyalgia sufferers started having symptoms after a traumatic event like a car accident, work in jury or a fall.

If you suffer with fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue, you know how demanding life can be.  You probably experience aches all over your body, disturbed sleep, tender points in the neck and shoulders, recurring headaches, fatigue and stiffness, and or restless leg syndrome.

A patient with fibromyalgia explained it like this…

“For people who take good health for granted, it’s hard to imagine a condition that makes simple tasks great tests of will and determination.”

Fibromyalgia is a real disease with real pain.

Many medical doctors don’t even think fibromyalgia is a real disease, but you know it is. You feel it every day — from the minute you wake up in the morning, all your  normal daily tasks like cleaning the house, doing laundry, even cooking dinner takes a lot out of you.

Mark Pelligrino, MD (author of The Fibromyalgia Survivor), found that 2/3 of 2,000 fibromyalgia patient files showed patients started experiencing their symptoms after traumatic events like a car accident, work injury, or a fall.

Another study published in the 1997 issue of Arthritis And Rheumatism, said fibromyalgia is 13 times more likely to occur following neck injury than following a leg injury.

Prescription drugs are at best  “masking tape” that covers up the daily warning signs of a painful disease.

Pain pills, even over-the-counter medications, don’t fix the cause of your problem. They may be necessary for a momentary crisis, but using them long term is no way to live. Many of these pain medications are quite addicting and have very real side effects.

One medication, Lyrica, was originally used to treat seizures.  It basically reduces the pain by “killing” the nerves.  Well, nerves are only 10% for sensation, the remaining 90% is for your body to function properly.  I’ve had patients who were put on this drug and said it helped reduce the pain, but they were so sedated, that they couldn’t perform their daily activities.

The other medication, Cymbalta, was originally approved for depression, anxiety and diabetic neuropathy.  One risk is increase of suicidal behavior and noted increase depression with Fibromyalgia sufferers who take this drug. (previous info received from the FDA website).

Have you been everywhere, tried everything, and are still suffering?

Fibromyalgia is often called the invisible disease. You look fine on the surface, but underneath you’re often exhausted and in excruciating pain.

My name is Dr. Russell Brokstein, DC, owner of Hometown Family Wellness Center located in downtown Freehold, NJ in Monmouth County. Over the past 13 years I’ve used gentle treatments to help so many fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue patients feel better and live healthier, more joyful lives.

By taking a different approach, we naturally get to the cause of fibromyalgia.  We do not cover up the symptoms with medications, that at most mask the symptoms.  Our goal is to get you feeling better to enjoy your normal daily activities, family and social life once again.

In our Freehold, NJ office we analyze 4 areas known to be out of balance with patients suffering with fibromyalgia.  We test the nervous system with advanced computerized technology.  Then we check the adrenal glands, also called the stress glands.  These glands help regulate the major hormones of the body, but if not functioning well, you will not adapt to stress well and experience many symptoms.  Next we analyze the toxicity or pH levels of the body.  Finally, we are one of only 4 doctors in NJ that have advanced biofeedback that tests for internal and external stressors that are scientifically proven to contribute to many symptoms including Fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, and restless leg syndrome.

Finally, A Proven Solution

 For Fibromyalgia Pain

Numerous studies have shown the benefits of chiropractic care in fibromyalgia patients:

Dr. Frederick Wolfe, a well-known investigator of fibromyalgia and clinical professor at the University of Kansas School of Medicine, ran a study on fibromyalgia.

He asked patients to indicate drug or alternative treatments that best relieved their pain.

Dr. Wolfe found that changes in lifestyle worked better than drugs and stated “Chiropractic treatment also scored among the most effective measures.”

Another study examined the effectiveness of chiropractic in relieving fibromyalgia symptoms.

After just a few chiropractic treatments, fibromyalgia patients suffered from less pain and fatigue, and actually enjoyed better sleep.(JMPT 2000)

And best of all, there will be…

No Harmful Drugs, No Uncertain Procedures, And No Intimidation.

I look forward to helping you get rid of your pain so you can start living a healthier, more joyful life.  Imagine how great you could feel without your constant fatigue and nagging pains. Imagine waking up each morning, jumping out of bed, and enjoying the day…no more waking up and feeling like you got hit by a truck.

Imagine not having to take handfuls of pain pills that haven’t helped much and have dangerous side effects.

What would it feel like to finally have hope again?

If you suffer from fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue and or restless leg syndrome, there is hope!  Regain your life back, like the many other patients we have helped in Freehold, Marlboro, Morganville, Jackson, Howell, Colts Neck and Manalapan, NJ.

Freehold Chiropractor Shares Why Your Body Needs Water

There is no better time than now to discuss why your body needs water, than while we are experiencing one of the worst heat waves in decades in the United States.  Today in Freehold, NJ we are expecting a high of around 103 and boy what I would do to be sitting on the edge of the water at the beach right  now, but I will be doing what I love the most today.. helping patients be healthy without the use of drugs or surgery.

Water is of major importance for our body to function and be healthy.  Roughly 70% of our body is made up of water.  The lungs are nearly 90% water.  Lean muscle tissue contains about 75% water by weight, as is the brain; body fat contains 10% water and bone has 22% water, and about 83% of our blood is water.

Water is so important and basic to life and health.   All the cells in our body are composed of water.  Water is vital to dissolve so many substances by allowing our cells to use valuable nutrients, minerals, and chemicals.

Water in the blood stream is used to metabolize and transport carbohydrates and proteins our body gets from food.   Equally important is the use of water to transport waste material out of our bodies to detoxify.  Water also helps to protect and keep our joints moist.

Every single muscle, organ, tissue and cell in your body needs water!

Do you think it’s a coincidence that the planet also around 70% water?  What happens to the planet if there is a lack of water?  Look at areas that go through extended drought:  The ground cracks, plants die, animal life dies.. nothing can exist.

As a chiropractor in Freehold, NJ, another analogy I use is that your body is like a sponge.  Normally, a wet sponge is soft, bends and is elastic.  It is hard to make it lose it’s shape.  If you don’t use the sponge for a long time and just leave it on the counter top, it dries out and gets brittle.  Try to bend that dried out sponge and it starts to tear and break.  The tissues of your body are the same way.  If your body gets dehydrated, the muscles, tendons and ligaments will tear, strain and sprain much more easily resulting in more aches and pains.

Reading a Tri-County Clinic of Chiropractic‘s blog today, the chiropractor stated a great point:  “Think about this, the brain consists of 90% water right? If you do not get enough water to your body, your brain could not function well and that could result in a headache or migraine. So, the next time you feel fatigue and a headache, it may be a sign of dehydration so try drinking some water to relieve it.”

Unfortunately, most people DO NOT drink enough water.  Your body is dehydrated, and you wonder why you feel sluggish, weak, have aches and pain, or sick all the time.

Coffee does not equal water, neither does juice, soda, alcohol, energy drinks, seltzer or other products you are consuming.  Actually in many instances, these products are dehydrating you!  Coffee has 70 to 80 mg of caffeine.  Caffeine dehydrates your body!  I have read articles that say for each cup of coffee you drink you need to drink an extra glass of water.  But many of the research articles I have read say for each cup of coffee, it pulls out 4 to 8 glasses of water…. so you would have to drink 4 to 8 glasses of water to make up for EACH cup of coffee you drink.

I see many patients in Monmouth County, New Jersey from the towns of Freehold, Marlboro, Morganville, Howell, Jackson, Millstone, Colts Neck and Manalapan, NJ.  One of the first things I tell patients to help improve their health is start drinking water to hydrate the body, and cut out products like coffee and other dehydrating substances.  It’s amazing what one little simple thing can do to transform the health of patients.

Freehold NJ Chiropractor Shares Studies Comparing Scoliosis Treatment Outcomes

As a chiropractor in Freehold, NJ, I have been helping patients who suffer with Scoliosis for the past 13 years.  We’ve helped hundreds of scoliosis patients feel better, get rid of their back pain and return to an active lifestyle.  We’ve also saved many people from the risky option of surgery.

Scoliosis is an aggravating condition.  There’s stiffness, pain and often times a deformed posture.  It can also cause headaches, sciatica, increased stress, limitation of activities and over time increased spinal degeneration, as well as disc degeneration.

Many patients suffering with scoliosis have been told they have only three options — to do nothing, bracing, or surgery.

Bracing is often recommended by medical practitioners in the early stages of scoliosis, but one study conducted at the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation at the University of Iowa compared bracing to non-bracing. And no difference was noticed in the surgery rates (Spine 2007).

This means bracing was no help with their scoliosis. Their scoliosis curvature advanced at the same rate as those who did nothing.

Studies have also shown that patients felt bracing handicapped their life and left a psychological scar.

Surgery Is Not The Only Option

Scoliosis surgery involves implanting metal rods and screws to straighten the spine.

However, numerous studies have shown that multiple complications, including rusting and corrosion, bending, or breaking completely, prove this method dangerous.

Many sufferers who had the rods implanted, end up  later undergoing surgery to have them removed.

While I was in chiropractic college, I was fortunate enough to meet another chiropractic student that went around to all the other classes to speak about her experience.  When she was 17 years old, her orthopedic doctors told her she had no option but to get rods placed in her spine to correct the scoliosis.  She went into detail of the thickness of the rods being as thick as her pinky, how they cut away parts of her vertebral bones, hook and lock in the rods, then place bone filler for the bones they cut away.  The bigger problem began a year later when she started experiencing more excruciating pain.  Fortunately for her, somebody recommended she follow up with a chiropractor who took more X-rays to find that her scoliosis was starting to bend the rods.  He recommended that she have the rods removed and start under chiropractic care.   This changed not only her life, but lead her to going into chiropractic for her own career and share her experience with other chiropractors and those who have scoliosis.

In addition, thousands of post-surgery scoliosis patients are legally declared permanently disabled every year. Follow up x-rays on other cases have shown that scoliosis can even return years after the operation.

A Less Invasive Treatment Can Help

Chiropractic has a long record of successfully helping people with scoliosis.

A study published in a scientific journal (JMPT 2001) showed patients with scoliosis who went for chiropractic care had an actual decrease in the scoliosis curvature.

The head of the study, Dr. Charles Lantz, DC, PhD stated…

“Chiropractic appears to offer a distinct advantage in the management and monitoring of early stage scoliosis.”

The most useful part of this study was that the sooner a child underwent treatment, the better the change in the curvature.

Another study showed that “the combined use of spinal manipulation [chiropractic care] and postural therapy appeared to significantly reduce the severity of the Cobb angle in all 19 subjects.” (BMC Muscoloskelet Disorders 2004)

Could This Treatment

Help You, Your Child’s or somebody you know who has Scoliosis?

It’s time for you to find out if chiropractic can help your scoliosis.

Nobody can promise to cure your scoliosis, but chiropractors can promise to use all of their knowledge and techniques to help with your posture, your back and or neck pain, and possibly even improve your curvature if caught early enough.

Nothing’s worse than feeling great mentally, but physically feeling held back from life because you (or your child’s) back hurts – and the pain just won’t go away!

If you live in Freehold, Marlboro, Manalapan, Howell, Colts Neck, Jackson, Morganville or other nearby towns in Monmouth County, New Jersey and looking for a chiropractor, contact us for our special scoliosis consultation.

Pregnant Women are Finding Relief of Their Back Pain and Sciatica at Freehold NJ Chiropractor

My name is Dr. Russell Brokstein, director of Hometown Family Wellness Center located in Freehold, NJ.  By using my gentle chiropractic techniques over the past 13 years, I’ve been fortunate to help pregnant women suffer less and have more joyful pregnancies.  That includes both my sisters with their 5 pregnancies as well as many other women in the Freehold area in Monmouth County, New Jersey.

A clinical study suggests this natural drug-free treatment can give you up to 95% improvement in 2 days.

Pregnancy can be overwhelming at times.

While it’s one of the greatest things to ever happen to you, your body goes through some difficult changes —  like back pain, shoulder stiffness, sciatica and pelvic problems just to name a few.

If not addressed, these conditions can have a negative impact on your lifestyle and can make your delivery much more difficult.

Chiropractic care has a long, proven track record in helping pregnant women during this constantly changing, yet delicate time. Here’s what one study had to say about chiropractic and pregnancy

“84% of patients receiving spinal manipulative therapy [chiropractic care] reported relief of back pain during pregnancy. There was significantly less likelihood of back labor when spinal manipulative therapy was administered during pregnancy.” — JMPT 1991

This confirms that not only is chiropractic care the best, natural drug-free solution to your back pain, but it will make your back labor much less painful.

Add to this what childcare experts and authors Dr. William and Martha Sears state in their highly praised The Pregnancy Book, ” chiropractic care in pregnancy can help to…

“avoid or relieve back pain and also prepare your back and pelvic structures for the stresses of labor and birth.”

Furthermore, it’s vital to both mother and baby that the pelvis be in proper balance and alignment during pregnancy. If the pelvis is out of place, it can cause “intrauterine constraint“, restricting the room available for the growing baby.

Both my sisters were informed by their doctors that because our mother had 3 c-sections, that they were likely to need c-sections to deliver.  Luckily they  let me adjust them during their pregnancies, and all 4 of my nephews and 1 niece were born naturally, no complications with very short deliveries on average of 2 hours.  The MD’s were shocked, but as a chiropractor, this is very common and regular result of chiropractic treatment.

A bad pelvic alignment can also make it difficult for the baby to get into the best position for delivery.

One such position is called “breech” presentation where the baby is not positioned headfirst –  making the delivery difficult and even dangerous for mother and child. But scientific studies have proven a special chiropractic technique has extraordinary success with helping breech babies.

One study (J Manipulative Physiol Ther. 2002 ) confirmed that this unique approach helps the mother’s body turn the baby. Of 112 cases studied, 102 of them turned correctly after this gentle procedure was performed…

That’s A Success Rate of 92% in Helping Turn Breech Presentations

In fact, many medical and healthcare associations recommend chiropractic care for pregnant mothers. The American Pregnancy Association said the following about chiropractic…

Potential benefits of chiropractic care during pregnancy include:

  • Maintaining a healthier pregnancy
  • Controlling symptoms of nausea
  • Reducing the time of labor and delivery
  • Relieving back, neck or joint pain
  • Prevent a potential cesarean section

As you can see, chiropractic care during pregnancy is well established and a safe method of care.  If you live in Freehold or the surrounding towns of Marlboro, Manalapan, Howell, Colts Neck, Jackson, Morganville or other nearby locations, you can contact us to find out if chiropractic can be your solution to the problems that accompany pregnancy.

Just because you are pregnant doesn’t mean you have to suffer for nine months.

Women who got chiropractic care showed a 95% improvement in their symptoms, in as little as 2 visits, according to a 2006 study in the Journal of Midwifery & Women’s Health.

Don’t suffer your whole pregnancy term when there’s a natural solution proven to help both mother and baby.

Freehold Chiropractor explains most auto injuries including whiplash are missed after a car accident

As a chiropractor in Freehold, NJ, I am constantly reading articles, papers and blogs about different topics so I can further share with my community. Today I was reading an article from a fellow chiropractor in St. George, Utah.  His series of blogs covers everything pertaining to car accidents, from whiplash injuries, strains and sprains, typical symptoms with whiplash type injuries, some home care and most importantly why chiropractic is so important with whiplash and other auto injuries.  You can read all about whiplash at his blog:  Your Whiplash Injury

So many people get into car accidents of various severity.   Some are little fender benders and others end up with total destruction of the car.  Important to note is severity of the injuries do not always match the damage to a car.  Even a small 5 MPH bumper hit can cause whiplash and other bodily injuries.  Unfortunately most people will go to a hospital or medical doctor after the accident, and you are told you are fine as the X-rays are normal.  The fact is, hospitals and medical doctors just look for broken bones on the x-rays and miss the most important of the injuries:  soft tissue injuries and spinal misalignment.

Many times, people don’t know they were injured because they have no symptoms immediately after the accident.  Then 5, 10, 20 or more years later, all of a sudden you start to experience neck pain, back pain, headaches or migraines, even numbness and tingling, not knowing what the cause was.  A chiropractor that has worked with car accident injuries can put the puzzle together and show you how it was related to your past accident and treat you properly to correct the underlying cause of the symptoms.

If you  have been in a car accident, whether you are in pain or not, you should go to a chiropractor that has experience with auto accidents and have a thorough chiropractic and neurologic evaluation to make sure no long term damage was done.  It is much easier to take care of the problem immediately post accident versus waiting until you have more symptoms and scar tissue has formed years down the road.

We have 13 years experience treating auto injuries in our Freehold, NJ chiropractic office located in Monmouth County.

If you are in Utah, make sure to look up Dr. Todd Lloyd, DC as he also had many years of experience treating these types of conditions:

Chiropractor in Freehold NJ helps patients Sleep Again

People all over the country are suffering with sleeping problems. Some statistics show that 40 percent have chronic problems. Many chiropractors find misalignment of one of the first 2 vertebrae in the neck in people who suffer from sleep disorders such as insomnia and sleep apnea.

In our office we also evaluate other areas that can be causing sleep problems. If your adrenal glands aren’t functioning well, they need to be addressed. There are 2 products that most people consume that cause these glands to stop working properly: caffeine (coffee, energy drinks) and refined carbohydrates (white pasta, white rice, white sugar). One of the hormones your body produces is called cortisol and if not at correct levels can cause sleep disorders.

Another area of concern is the body’s toxicity levels. Everything you eat, breathe and drink has chemicals in it. Our body gets overwhelmed and can’t filter all these chemicals, making our body more acidic or toxic. This adds stress to the body, preventing quality sleep. Some research also shows that bacteria, viruses and cancer thrives in acidic environments, so if your body is acidic, it is unhealthy.

One last significant problem to address is stress.  Everybody from children to adults experience stress of many types.  There is chemical, physical and emotional stress.  Internal and external stressors have been scientifically proven to contribute to many symptoms and illnesses including sleep disorders but also allergies, depression, headaches, anxiety, arthritis, fatigue, digestive issues, weight gain, skin irritations, food sensitivities, ADD/ADHD and so much  more.  We are one of only a handful of doctors who have FDA cleared biofeedback to assess sensitivities that elicit stress resulting in these symptoms.

I have been helping people in Freehold, Monmouth County, NJ and the surrounding towns of Marlboro, Manalapan, Howell, Colts Neck, Jackson, Morganville and Englishtown to once again “Sleep like a baby.” By addressing these 3 issues, you can start sleeping once again.

A good night’s sleep is one of the most important things for the body to be healthy so the body can heal from the days stress. Restoring normal sleep is one of the desired affects of normal chiropractic treatment. It’s common that many of our patients that come in for back pain, neck pain, sciatica, fibromyalgia, headaches or migraines and other problems, come back after their first couple of visits saying they had their best night’s sleep in years and feel revitalized. Sleeping is a common side effect when C1 and C2 are adjusted to bring proper alignment. Best thing of all, there are no drugs involved!!
In our office we use service EMG, posture, palpation and other chiropractic tests to help determine misalignment of the cervical spine and other areas.
We further test the adrenal glands and toxicity levels to get the body more in balance. If tests show problems, we take natural steps to remove the toxins and get the adrenal glands functioning optimally.  Stress is analyzed using bioenergetic stress reduction.

If you or somebody you know is suffering from poor sleep, share this information with them so they no longer ingest harmful drugs. Make sure you get your upper neck evaluated by a chiropractor. If we can get you sleeping better, we can get you healing better!
