Natural Sciatica Pain Relief

Natural sciatica pain relief is sought by many people.  Sciatica is a condition suffered by many people.

chiropractor freehold Natural Sciatica Pain Relief

Sciatica can travel from the low back, down the thigh, to beyond the knee and into the feet.

It is due to irritation of a group of nerves from the low back.  People can present with numbness and tingling into the thigh, around the knee, to the calf and even extending down into the feet or toes.

Too many times patients seek care of an orthopedic doctor that just will prescribe medications.  Medications at most will mask the symptoms of the sciatica.  This can be dangerous as the underlying cause of the sciatica will most likely get worse.  There are also a list of severe side effects of all these medications which are far from natural sciatica pain relief.  Other times they will recommend physical therapy.  Some types of therapy will give temporary relief.  This can be in the form of electric stimulation, ultrasound, icing, or stretching.  None of these types of treatments correct the cause of the sciatica.

To give you an analogy to the above that you are more familiar with, lets look at your teeth.  If you have a cavity or toothache, you go the dentist.  If he just gave you a shot of Novocaine, you would feel a little better.  He could ice your mouth which would numb it for a short time.  Maybe use a laser.  Prescribe some pain medication.  But all of these would be temporary!  You would be wondering why your dentist wasn’t cleaning out the cavity and fixing it.

Natural sciatica pain relief is simple to find.  Chiropractors find the cause of the irritation to the sciatic nerve.  Once we find the cause, we use gentle chiropractic techniques to adjust the area to remove the pressure from the nerve.

Sciatica Helped by Freehold Chiropractor

Most people experience low back pain at one time or another.  Unfortunately many wait too long to have it corrected or just cover it up with medications that just give temporary relief.  Just like a cavity can progressively get worse, the underlying cause of the back pain degenerates and can develop into bulging or herniated discs and also a condition called sciatica.

Sciatica is a condition that refers to pain or discomfort associated with the sciatic nerve. The nerve runs from the lumbar spine, down the back of the chiropractor freehold Sciatica Helped by Freehold Chiropractorleg, to the foot.  Injury to or pressure on the sciatic nerve can cause the characteristic pain of sciatica: a sharp or burning pain that radiates from the lower back or hip, possibly following the path of the sciatic nerve all the way down to the foot.  Some people describe a feeling of burning, sharp pain or even pins and needles into the foot.

There can be several causes of sciatica.  Many times the bones of the lumbar spine will misalign or subluxate, putting pressure on the nerve.  Many instances when the bones stay subluxated the discs start to generate or trauma can cause the disc to bulge or herniate further putting pressure on the sciatica nerve.  Another common cause of sciatica is when a muscle called the piriformis gets tight or goes into spasm and puts pressure on the nerve resulting in sciatica.  Also, the feet can be misaligned or have dropped arches which cause the feet to pronate or supinate.  This misalignment of the feet can cause rotation of the knees and hips resulting in an imbalance of the lumbar and pelvic regions and that can add to the pressure on the sciatic nerve.

Following is a video of one of our patients who was having sciatica as well as back pain resulting from disc problems:

In our office, Hometown Family Wellness Center,  Dr. Russell Brokstein addresses the cause of your condition.  When it comes to sciatica it’s important to find a chiropractor that not only addresses the subluxations in the spine, but also the imbalances in the muscles of the legs and the misalignments in the ankles, feet and knees.  If these other areas aren’t addressed, the subluxations will most likely keep occurring along with the pain associated with sciatica.  Chiropractic has a high success rate in correcting the cause of sciatica and this is done without medications that can results in many dangerous side effects.

Chiropractor in Freehold NJ Review by Survivor of 9/11 for his Back Pain and Shoulder Pain

Two years ago I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to help a survivor of the terror attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11.  I remember the day he came into the office with the assistance of his wife who also survived.  He had been suffering for 8 years with low back pain and shoulder pain and was using a walker to help him get around.  From getting out of the chair in our waiting room to getting to the exam room took a lot of effort and pain.  Watch and listen to Edwin tell his story.

I am so thankful to have had the opportunity to help such an amazing gentleman and family, allowing him to start enjoying his normal daily activities once again.  This is what chiropractic is all about!  Helping patients correct the underlying cause of their problems and being healthy naturally, not just cover up pain and symptoms with medications.  This is why I love what I do as a chiropractor, helping patients like Edwin and every other patient I have had over the past 14 years.

Chiropractor in Freehold NJ Explains Weight Loss Eases Back Pain and Sciatica

Over 80% of the population experiences back pain.  Many times this progresses to sciatica and disc problems.  Unfortunately, so many people these days are overweight and this increases the risk of having low back pain and sciatica.  Not only is the additional weight too much for the back, chiropractor freehold Chiropractor in Freehold NJ Explains Weight Loss Eases Back Pain and Sciaticabut the discs and other joints including the hips, knees, ankles and feet.

New research shows that losing weight significantly helps patients suffering with these conditions.  Patients that have a high BMI (Body Mass Index) recover more slowly from lower back pain and have higher risks of getting sciatica, degeneration of the discs and arthritis in the spinal joints.  When you are overweight, more pressure is put on spinal joints therefore decreasing the disc spaces and leading to pinched nerves or sciatica.

In the research, 30 patients who had gastric bypass surgery showed that with the weight loss, the space between the discs increased and alleviated the pressure on the irritated nerves.  Patients reported experiencing a significant reduction in back pain and sciatica pain.

In our Freehold, NJ office, Hometown Family Wellness Center, we take a different approach to helping out patients suffering with low back pain and sciatica.  Our natural treatment plan includes chiropractic care to correct the cause of the pain, exercise and stretching, and for those patients that are overweight we have an 11 day body transformation program.  We don’t support gastric bypass surgery as not only is it costly but the risks are substantial and many times lead to malnutrition.  Our weight loss program incorporates optimal nutrition and full body cellullar cleansing to get to the true reason why so many people have a problem losing weight.  Patients are averaging 5 to 15lbs weight loss on our 11 day program and 22 to 28lbs on our 30 day program.

Dr. Russell Brokstein, chiropractor and owner of Hometown Family Wellness center, has been helping patients for 14 years since graduating from Life Chiropractic College.  His unique approach to pain relief, weight loss and optimal health and wellness is getting patients to realize by correcting the cause of their problems, they can once again enjoy their normal daily activities without drugs and surgery.  Call our office to find out how to correct your low back pain and sciatica naturally and check out or website:  www.ChiropractorFreehold.com

Chiropractor in Freehold NJ Shares Research Showing Smoking Increases Risk of Back Pain

There are many risks to smoking cigarettes and new research is showing it can also increase your risk of back pain.

chiropractor freehold Chiropractor in Freehold NJ Shares Research Showing Smoking Increases Risk of Back Pain95,000 nurses in one study showed those women that smoked were three times more likely to develop Psoriatic arthritis.  This form of arthritis is inflammatory in nature and can cause lower back pain and sacral pain.  Even those smokers that quit were 1.5 times more likely to develop psoriatic arthritis, and the highest risk were women that smokes for over 25 years.  It is believed smoking increases the risk of psoriatic arthritis because smoking can induce oxidative stress which causes inflammation and also damages the immune system.

Another new study shows smokers had a higher incidence of inflammatory back pain at a younger age.  Patients who smoke overall have more disease and illness, worse body function, and a much lower quality of life.  Research of smokers shows MRI scans revealed more structural lesions on their spines and sacroiliac joints than non smokers.  Since smokers have more severe symptoms, they tend to have more absenteeism from work than non smokers.  This is another reason to add for smokers to quit immediately, especially if you are experiencing back pain with inflammation.

Other research on smoking has shown correlation to increase in sciatica and other chronic pain conditions.

Our chiropractic office, Hometown Family Wellness Center, located in Freehold, NJ has been highly successful in helping patients with back pain, sciatica and many forms of arthritis.  While addressing the cause of the back pain, we also help support our patients in making healthy lifestyle changes to reduce the risks of  pain and improving your overall health without the use of drugs or surgery.  Smoking is a difficult, addictive habit to quit and we have including biofeedback stress reduction therapy in our office to help patients end their addictive habits.  To find out more about our office click here:  www.ChiropractorFreehold.com

Drugs are Not Effective for Sciatica Explains Chiropractor in Freehold NJ

Many people suffer with pain that goes from the lower back down the leg, sometimes all the way to the feet and toes.  This pain is called sciatica and is from the irritation of a group of nerves from the lumbar spine.  Many times, doctors prescribe pain medication for patients with sciatica, but new research from the prestigious British Medical chiropractor freehold Drugs are Not Effective for Sciatica Explains Chiropractor in Freehold NJJournal reveals that there may be little evidence these drugs help.

23 studies  were reviewed by researchers comparing placebo pills to various drugs typically prescribed for sciatica.  In every study, there was no proof that the prescription drugs gave any more pain relief than the placebos.  Also, the radiating pain many times associated with sciatica was not significantly reduced.  Two of the drugs may have reduced overall pain but the long term effects were unclear.  The important fact one must note is that any pain medication that might provide temporary relief is just masking the symptoms of the pain and is not correcting what is actually causing the pain.  On top of that, every medication has serious side effects that a patient should look into before taking them.  Wouldn’t it make more sense to do something that corrects the cause of the pain naturally?

In this research, it was concluded there is no proof showing pain medications commonly prescribed for sciatica were affective.

There is a much more affective approach to helping a patient suffering with sciatica:  CHIROPRACTIC!!!  Another study done in 2010 shows that chiropractic is just as effective as surgery, but is much less risky than surgery and extremely more cost effective.

Dr. Russell Brokstein, the chiropractor at Hometown Family Wellness Center in Freehold, NJ has been treating sciatica patients effectively with chiropractic for over 13 years.  If you or somebody you know has been suffering with sciatica, wouldn’t you like to finally get the cause of the pain corrected, rather than taking pain medications with numerous side effects and proven not affective in the treatment of sciatica?  Call our office at 732-780-0044 and find out more information on our website at www.chiropractorfreehold.com
